چکیده
Molecular luminescent switches form a unique and fascinating class of compounds whose luminescence response can be toggled with chemical or physical stimuli. Switchable near-infrared (NIR) emitters are major interest since they compatible in vivo imaging have potential for advanced materials such as security tags. Of particular the NIR emitting lanthanides, which feature narrow, sharp intense emission lines originating from f–f Laporte forbidden transitions. Although, these “fingerprints” general rather insensitive to surrounding media, manipulated thanks proper engineering complex first second coordination spheres. The resulting switching systems may thus find usefulness various application fields. In this review, we selected representative examples switchable lanthanide based on most relevant stimuli, chemical, environmental, thermal, electrochemical photochemical inputs.

This work illustrates a simple approach for optimizing long-lived near-infrared lanthanide-centered luminescence using trivalent chromium chromophores as sensitizers. Reactions of the segmental ligand L2 with stoichiometric amounts of M(CF(3)SO(3))(2) (M = Cr, Zn) and Ln(CF(3)SO(3))(3) (Ln = Nd, Er, Yb) under aerobic conditions quantitatively yield the D(3)-symmetrical trinuclear [MLnM(L2)(3)](...

Near-infrared (NIR) luminescent lanthanide complexes hold great promise for practical applications, as their optical properties have several complementary advantages over organic fluorophores and semiconductor nanoparticles. The fundamental challenge for lanthanide luminescence is their sensitization through suitable chromophores. The use of the metallacrown (MC) motif is an innovative strategy...

Platinum-based chemotherapy, although it has been well proven to be effective in the battle against cancer, suffers from limited specificity, severe side effects and drug resistance. The development of new alternatives with potent anticancer effects and improved specificity is therefore urgently needed. Recently, there are some new chemotherapy reagents based on photoactive Re(i) complexes whic...
متن کاملPyridine-based lanthanide complexes: towards bimodal agents operating as near infrared luminescent and MRI reporters.
We report two prototype Ln(3+) complexes that address requirements for both MRI and luminescence imaging and we demonstrate that the presence of two H(2)O molecules bound to the Ln(3+), beneficial for MRI applications of the Gd(3+) analogue, is not a major limitation for the development of NIR luminescent agents.
